Established in the year 1972, Department of Physics has started functioning with B.Sc. Physics course and then in 2011 became a PG department with the starting of M.Sc. Physics course. In 2015, our department was recognized as Research department with the introduction of Ph.D programme(FT/PT- University of Madras). Presently, our department accommodates 144 students in B.Sc. Physics (Three years) and 40 in M.Sc. Physics(Two years).Twenty two research scholars are doing their Ph.D research under the able guidance of seven of our department faculties. Our department faculties and research scholars have several publications in national and international journals to their credit. Our department has got a good library facile ty as well.
- Physics Association SPARK through which several seminars and lectures are organized regularly.
- Dr. G. Prabagaran,Associate Professor and Head has been awarded Honorary D.Litt by University of South America(2017).
- Dr. J.Padmanabhan, Associate Professor has visited United Kingdom as Academic visitor under Study Abroad Programme of TANSCHE(2013).
- Dr.S.Senthil, Assistant Professor is presently carrying out a Major project(Rs.23 lakhs) sponsored by DST-SERB (2016-2019).
- Dr. A Kala, Assistant Professor has been coordinating Yoga training for the welfare of faculties and students of our College(2014 onwards).
- Ms.S. Arulmani, Research Scholar has been awarded Rajiv Gandhi fellowship for doing Ph.D(2015-16 onwards)
- Mr. R. Ayappan, PG student has cleared UGC-NET(Lecturership) in 2016-2017.
